Tell us about yourself:
I grew up an air force brat, but attended and graduated from high school in southwest Iowa. Afterwards, I graduated with BS in Nutritional Science from Iowa State University and went on to obtain an MPH Nutrition at the University of Minnesota. I worked at MDH on the Statewide Health Improvement Program, and then took at job in the Center for Prevention at Blue Cross Blue Shield of MN. I currently manage 3 of the 8 Healthy Eating Minnesota contracts, among other things, and absolutely love the food systems work that we do. I am a very happy wife and the mom of a wonderful, smart and curious 2 year old. I love running, reading, spending time with family, and enjoying the great outdoors in this beautiful state we live in!
What gifts can you give to Minnesota's healthy food communities?
Resources, learning opportunities, connections to other people, PSE and healthy eating knowledge
What knowledge and practices would you like to learn?
More on how we can improve the nutrition environment in child care centers; integration of community and clinical work
What about this work excites you?
Knowing that the goal of the work I do is to increase access to healthy foods for populations who may not have previously had access is so rewarding and exciting. I particularly enjoy the organizing and policy advocacy work.

Without farmers and good soil, we would not be able to eat healthy foods.  Farmland preservation, farmland access, and taking care of those farmers who are growing healthy foods in a sustainable way should be a high priority for anyone working in the healthy eating/healthy food access/food systems arena.

Farmer Dave Minar will be on MPR's Daily Circuit at 10:00am this morning, talking about CapX2020, the Buy the Farm law, and their petition to save their family farm. Tune in and…

Agreed!  Now that the Summit is over, my schedule has freed up considerably.  Are you free anytime in the next two or three weeks?

Great! I am free anytime Friday, Sept 7 and 14. Do either work for you?  We could meet for coffee/lunch/happy hour somewhere. I live in St. Paul and work in Eagan, but am flexible and can meet somewhere else if its more convenient for you.  Just let me know!
