Confession: over the last few weeks, I've been disengaged with the discussions on this network - feeling a little uninspired. I'm an introvert. For me, it takes having time to think, to be inspired. My lack of inspiration stemmed mostly from being distracted. Not an excuse. Not looking for sympathy or empathy. Just stating a fact. We all get distracted from time to time.

Given our current strategies, where are the opportunities to skill and employ folks who are not engaged in these discussions ---to recognize the power they have to create a more just and sustainable food environment? And, where people have the skills . . . what ideas do you have to create access to opportunities?

I was online trying to figure out how to start a conversation about the significance or insignificance of Andrew Jackson Beard (former slave, farmer and inventor) and the relevancee of a discussion on Food Justice to most African American communities. Beard was a slave, emancipated to become a farmer, and later developed and sold patents for plowes, during the reconstruction period.
